Short Biography – Who is Richard Nixon?

American politician Richard Nixon was the 37th president of America who is remembered as the first and only president to resign in the USA President history so far. Many people wonder if President Richard Nixon was impeached. Public has also linked him with the infamous Water Gate scandal.  Richard Nixon years in office as a president of America lasted from 1969 to 1974 which was the year that Nixon resigned. Early Life and College Days 

Richard Nixon date of birth was on January 9, 1913 in Yorba Linda, California, U.S. Nixon was born to his father Francis A. Nixon and his mother Hannah Milhous Nixon. The family practiced Quaker faith. He spent most of his childhood days with his four brothers Harold, Donald, Arthur, and Edward. Nixon went on to attend Fullerton Union High School. He then transferred to Whittier College where he completed his undergraduate studies before attending Duke University School of Law from where he completed his graduation. He was elected president of the Duke Bar Association. He was active in politics since his college days where he developed his leadership skills. 

When was Nixon elected President?  

Richard Nixon initially began as a lawyer and opened a branch of Wingert and Bewley in La Habra, California. Eventually Nixon went on to be the Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from California's 12th district in 1947 to 1950. Nixon then was the US Senator of California from 1950 to 1953. Eventually, in 1953, Nixon became the 36th Vice president of the United States under the presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower. On 20th January 1969, Richard Nixon was elected the 37th President of United States. 

Why did Richard Nixon resign the office of

Despite his many good works including end of American involvement in Vietnam War and opening diplomatic relations in between America and China, he had to face downfall when the Watergate scandal increased. He knew that if he did not resign, he will surely have to face impeachment. SO, Nixon resigned from Office of President in 9th August 1974. Some of the issues that he covered during his presidency were the foreign policy with China, end of Vietnam war, the 1970s energy crisis, Space policy and more.

Richard was engaged to the daughter of the Whittier police chief, Ola Florence Welch in 1993 but they eventually broke up. Richard Nixon was married to his wife Pat Ryan in 1940. Together, the couple had two children named Patricia “Tricia” and Julie. Richard Nixon’s wife died one year prior to his death.
