Linda Yu, an Asian-American news anchor is best known as the news anchor for WLS-TV in the 4PM Eyewitness newscast in Chicago, Illinois. According to Linda Yu bio, she was born on December 1, 1946. Before joining WLS-TV, she worked for WMAQ-TV as a co-anchor from 1979. Later in the year 1984, she joined WLS-TV as an anchor. Yu is also the co-founder of the Asian-American Journalists Association. She has won five local Emmy Awards including one for her report examining the consequences of 9/11 in 2001. She was also honored with the National Gold Medal from the National Conference of Community and Justice in 1984 for her documentary titled “The Scars of Belfast”. She is living happily with her children.
Early Life and Career
Yu is originally from Xian, China. She moved to Hong Kong with her family when she was just three years old. Later in 1951, her family migrated to United States. In the beginning of arriving in USA, her family lived in Pennsylvania for the four years and after that they moved to Indiana and lived there for two years. After moving from Indiana, her family finally settled in California and at that time Yu was 12 years old. Since she was very much interested in journalism from her childhood, she completed her graduation with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Southern California in 1968. To pursue her career, she joined KTLA-TV in Los Angeles and worked as a writer and producer. After that she worked for ABC O & O KABC-TV as a writer. In the year 1979, she joined KGO-TV in San Francisco and served as a general assignment reporter and back-up anchor. In mid 1979, Yu moved to Chicago and became a weekend co-anchor for NBC’s WMAQ-TV and worked there for next five years. In 1984, she joined the WLS-TV (ABC 7 Chicago) station as co-anchor. She co-anchored in the station’s 4PM newscast alongside Joel Daly. After that she co-anchored much other news.
Yu has shown her talent and dedication towards her work each and every time. No matter how
many companies she joined and left but she impressed all of her seniors and co-workers with her work. Due to this, she has won five local Emmy awards too. She received her very first Emmy award in May 1981 and it was for a special newscast on the March 30, 1981 assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan. Her second award which she received the following year was for her report and coverage of a construction accident in Chicago’s downtown loop. Another award was for Outstanding Achievement within a Regularly Scheduled News Program, Spot Coverage which she received in the year 1987.
